Although the histogram is one of the most useful tools on modern DSLRs, it is also one of the least understood. The histogram is a bar graph that displays the the distribution of light, dark and color tonal values inside a digital image. These tonal values are also referred to as a camera’s dynamic range.

This is significant for a number of reasons. First of all, finding a four month old magazine in a doctor’s office is somewhat like stumbling across an original DaVinci drawing at a garage sale. Doctor’s offices are like eddies in the space-time continuum… ‘We’ll be with you in a moment.’ actually means, ‘I hope you don’t have anything planned for the rest of the day.’ and the normal selection of reading material dates from before you ever had a reason to be in a pediatrician’s office.
